The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
